Chennai Rains 2023

On December 5, 2023, South Chennai faced unprecedented rainfall of 52cm to 55cm, prompting swift action to aid those affected. NaMo Foundation promptly mobilized, distributing over 13,000 relief kits to impacted families. Each kit included essentials like bedsheets, rice, milk powder, and other necessities for a month. Additionally, freshly prepared meals were provided to the affected areas.
A dedicated team of volunteers assessed the daily impact of the rains across South Chennai, resulting in the distribution of 1,000 relief kits daily, starting from Periyar Nagar, Velachery. This effort escalated, with over 2,000 flood relief kits reaching families in Semmencherry, Kallukuttai, Taramani, Kannagi Nagar, and Perumbakkam. In a single day, a remarkable 5,000 provision kits were disbursed, addressing the urgent needs of numerous households. The Foundation’s swift distribution network played a crucial role in reaching those in distress.

Demonstrating ongoing solidarity, a comprehensive food distribution drive covered various areas in South Chennai, ensuring a continuous supply of freshly cooked meals to the affected population. The Foundation extended its support to sanitation workers, showcasing a multifaceted approach to disaster relief. Throughout December, NaMo Foundation conducted relief drives in Velachery, T. Nagar, Mylapore, Saidapet, Sholinganallur, and Virugambakkam, with the aim of restoring the lives of those affected by the floods. The relief activities carried out during the challenging period of heavy rains of December 2023 stand as a testament to the organization’s commitment in restoring hope in times of adversity.
